On a blustery Sunday, not especially ideal for exploring an island, my group of exchange friends and I left the Ma Liu Shui pier for an almost 2 hour long ferry ride headed for Tung Ping Chau. Located close to mainland China, the island is kidney bean shaped and, in 2013, had an estimated population of 8. Unique in the fact that it is the only island in Hong Kong made up of sedimentary rock, Tung Ping Chau is home to some amazing wave-cut rock formations and is one of the eight Geo-Areas of the Hong Kong Global Geopark. We got lucky and were able to dodge the rain for the most part. Still managed to skip stones on the choppy waves and came back happy with sore shoulders.
