Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail

Another awesome trip through the International Asian Studies Programme (IASP) of CUHK! On Saturday morning, a group of exchange friends and I took the train to Quarry Bay MTR Station, where we met the rest of the exchange group. It was a warm sunny day that was perfect (minus the part that I got slightly sunburned) for hiking the Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail in Hong Kong island.

Unlike all the other hikes I’ve been on in Hong Kong, this 5K trail was well paved and wide enough for two lane foot traffic and a group of 20 exchange students. The main attraction of the day, among the century-old engineering and architectural structures of bridges, aqueducts, arches, and dams, was the upper reservoir masonry bridge. The water was beautifully blue and clear. Unfortunately, swimming is not allowed in the reservoirs; otherwise, our whole group would’ve jumped off the bridge. We also spotted colorful Koi fish and lizards along the trail. Overall, a great day spent hiking and getting some extra vitamin D.
